ITEM DESCRIPTION: Mountain Craig Vase/Bowl by Van Briggle Pottery Company of Colorado Springs. Van Briggle logo withVAN BRIGGLE incised on bottom. Believed to be produced circa 1925. Note: The Mountain Craig glaze formula was lost in the flood of 1935, therefore, no more VB pieces were ever produced with this glaze after that time. DIMENSIONS: Measures 3 1/2 inches in height and 5 1/4 inches across. CONDITION: Appears to be in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or other damage that would detract from the value of this piece. BACKGROUND: We purchased this vase a few years back at a flea market. ABOUT VAN BRIGGLE: The history of Van Briggle Pottery, produced in Colorado Springs, Colorado, began in 1901 and continues today. Artus Van Briggle previously worked for the Rookwood Pottery company where he established himself as a talented artist before relocating to Colorado Springs and opening his own pottery business. Artus focused on the timeless art nouveau styles and designs which rose in popularity during the Craftsman era. Unfortunately, Artus lived only a few more years before dying from tuberculosis. His wife Anne, however, ensured that her husband’s legacy would carry on for many more years to come.
