Item for auction is a 0.95g full slice of a meteorite recovered from, and associated with a fall last year in Mauritania. According to Abdelhadi Ait Hiba, a fireball was seen in the afternoon sky on December 16, 2012, several school children saw the fireball explode and detonations were heard near the village of Mehaires, Western Sahara. Pieces were recovered approximately 40 miles south of Mehaires, near Mreïra, Mauritania, only a few days after the event. The strewn field is in the area called "Stailt Omgrain", which is a local nomadic name. This is south of Mehaires and north of the mountain "Galbe lahmar". The meteorite has been analyzed and submitted for classification to the Meteoritical Society. The meteorites feature fresh, velvety fusion crust, with a pale matrix streaked with melt veins and a shock stage of S6. This is an ordinary chondrite L6 with a weathering grade of W0. The stone was cut on a wire saw by Montana Meteorite Laboratory and exhibits a brecciated texture highlighted with shock melt phases. This is an exceptional specimen that would make a perfect addition to your collection, and comes in a quality labeled display box for protection and years of viewing pleasure. Meteorite includes a Big Kahuna Meteorites Certificate of Authenticity. Scale cube in photo is 1cm on each side, and not included in sale. Shipping read more
