This is a vintage REAL PHOTO postcard showing heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey (third from left) and his sparring partners. The caption reads "No. 3. DEMPSEY AND SPARRING PARTNERS". The location is not indicated, but I think this may have been taken in Great Falls or in Shelby. Dempsey set up a training camp in Great Falls prior to the fight in Shelby. Penned on the back of this card is "Shelby, Mont. July 3rd. At Shelby today and tomorrow. Large crowd here but not as many as expected...". I couldn't make out the last line as there is some staining in the writing. Jack Demsey retained his championship by beating Tommy Gibbons at Shelby's outdoor arena in July of 1923. Published by Wesley Andrews of Baker, Oregon. Postally unused; WACO stampbox; circa 1923. In just fair to about good condition with moderate to heavy corner and edge wear and several heavy creases. Writing on back of card is stained. Despite the flaws, the image is quite good. A historical card for the Montana, Shelby or boxing theme real photo collector!
