__________________ This is a vintage REAL PHOTO postcard showing heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey striking a fighting pose as men watch -- a number of onlookers are peering out from inside the structure at left. The dog, on the other hand, seems to have other interests besides watching the heavyweight champion of the world work out. This card does not have a caption and may be a one-of-a-kind image. Montana historian and former Montana code commissioner Greg Petesch opined that this photo was probably taken in Great Falls at the old Dempsey Inn on Lower River Road. Dempsey set up a training camp in Great Falls prior to the fight in Shelby. He retained his championship by beating Tommy Gibbons at Shelby's outdoor arena in July of 1923. Photographer is not indicated -- probably an unknown amateur photographer. Postally unused; AZO stampbox with two corner arrrows pointing up and two down; circa 1923. In good condition with moderate corner and edge wear and small crease in upper left corner; slight soil. NOTE that there are severa small emulsion nicks about an inch above Dempsey that appear as white spots. A historical card for the Montana, Great Falls, Shelby or boxing theme real photo collector! ______________ Keyword(s): MT Montana No reserve.
