This is a Japanese one hand sword uchi-gatana (short katana) in project mountings. The blade is unsigned, shinogi-zukuri shape, Edo period ca.1700 era made blade. The blade is in old polish, shows fine scratches, light staines but no deep rust and in good condition. The temper line is wavy gunome with kinsuji active temper pattern throughout the blade and has deep temper at the point. The forging grain is itame-hada, shows tiny opening (see # 5 photo) 2" up from habaki. There is no nick, bend, and cutting edge is sharp. The scabbard is old urushi lacquered wood scabbard, shows aged wear, lacquer loss but no dent, no crack and need restration. The handle tight fit with iron fuchi /kashira and tsukaito wrapping shows aged stain but no cut, no loose. The tsuba is wave motif engraved nadekaku shape iron tsuba with nice patina. It measures 24+1/4" tip to tsuba, 23+3/8" cutting edge, 1+3/16" width, 6.5mm thickness at the notch and 34" in mountings. Shipping is $25 priority in U.S. Payment due within 3 days auction end.
