From WINGED CAT CO. Fine & Rare Works: This vase was created by Murano maestro, Vittorio Ferro. Signore Ferro is noted for perfecting and using the difficult and very old murrine and mosaic techniques, which I believe originated in Moracco and the African coast. From GLASMARKEN-LEXIKON: "Vittorio Ferro - From 1945 trains as glassblower at Vetreria Fratelli Toso in Murano (ITA) under the supvervision of his uncles, Armando and Amleto Zuffi, and trains at the Scuola de Desegno per Maestri Vetrai a Murano. From 1952-81, master glassblower at Vetreria Fratelli Toso , from 1981-98, master glassblower at Vetreria de Majo. From 1998 freelance. Ferro makes hand-blown glass with 'murrine' inclusions and uses mosaic techniques." Both murrine and mosaic techniques are ancient and difficult to learn.
