Up for Bid is this Beautiful & Interesting Egg Shaped, Millefiori Paperweight, Murano (?) Art Glass. Have you ever bid on something you loved on EBay & thought you Just Had to have at the time & with others bidding on it too, in the excitement you spent much more than you planned to spend? Well that's what I did on this nice Paperweight, about 5 years ago. I was really glad I won it, but I am ashamed, to tell you now what the amount was I paid for it. I will say though, I paid "Well" Over $30 for this. I'm not sure of the exact age but this glass was supposed to be an older Murano Millefiori ( which is filled with the multi color Flower or Hard Candy looking type designs). It is a lighter paperweight & when I saw it in person for the first time, the Millefiori Designs looked to me initially, like they were stretched over the outside top of egg, clear glass? Except the bottom smooth glass Pontil, has the Millefiori Underneath it, so I don't think it could be just stretched over the outside? It was supposed to be a very Fancy Murano Egg shaped Paperweight when I purchased it, but I honestly do not know what it is worth, so I am starting this glass off at a low bid. If someone does know about this piece please Enlighten me & I will pass the information on. Anyway, My Loss could be your Gain! This very Nice Paperweight measures 4" L by 2" W (on the widest part) from the top. You can slightly feel the Millefiori with your fingers on the outside of the glass, except for the Pontil which is smooth & glossy. The majority of this paperweight has a semi- glossy surface. It has some very tiny, light surface scratches on the base of the Pontil & at the very end of the widest part of the egg t is a Very minute chip. Other than this I could find no Flaws Whatsoever, No cracks, or anything Wrong with this Really Pretty Glass. The bottom has the flat circle smooth base, typical of authentic Murano. This glass is in Excellent Older Condition. (I take pictures in different Light settings in order to try to show the truest colors possible). I am not an expert on Murano Glass but from what I do know the Heavier Murano is usually older. Murano is a very popular collectible that most likely will only continue to increase in value. For those of you who are not familiar with Murano Glass, it has been sculpted by Italian artists, glass makers for centuries in Italy. The island of Murano was once an isolated place, that Italian law breakers were exiled to as a punishment. The island people being surrrounded by Sandy Beach found it was the perfect place to make glass due to the pleniful sand needed for glass making & this is exactly what they did. They eventually assimilated back into the regular Italian culture & continue to make glass t to this day. The people on the Island of Murano are now Famous for their Creative, Artistic Glass Scuptures, in all shapes & sizes, many with shell or water themes, some filled with Gold or Silver or Bubbles & usually always having a smooth flat round surface on the bottom called a Pontil.
