It's my great honor to be offering these fabulous bone carvings by Norm. Now living in the beautiful Pelorus Sound area of New Zealand, Norm has carved for 43 years and has exhibited his work at the Te Maori exhibitions in Chicago and New York, as well as being a guest artist in Los Angeles. Norm's detail, finish and polish is second to none. He carves in the traditional Maori style and his carvings are museum quality. This exquisite bone hei matau has unbelievable detail and fabulous surface carving. Each of Norm's carvings features unique, individual surface detail. The Hei Matau is the legendary fish hook with which Maori warrior Maui is said to have pulled the North Island of New Zealand from the South Island and represents triumph and determination. The Manaia is a powerful spirit guardian with the body of a fish, and the head of a bird, said to protect the wearer from harm or accident when travelling.
