THIS IS DESIGNED FOR A PARTICULAR BIDDER WHO HAS AGREED TO MY TERMS. PLEASE DO NOT BID!!! I am offering an extremely fine example of a British 19th Century WRITING BOX, made during the mid-late 1800âe(tm)s, the Victorian age of England, in very striking burr (burl) walnut veneer. What makes it particularly unusual is that the finish on the wood as well as on the brass straps is completely original. So many of these boxes have been devalued by having their finishes stripped or by polishing the brass. This is a box of MUSEUM QUALITYand as good as it gets condition. The patina is magnificent and just what one would expect of a high quality writing box over 100 years old. The INLAID BRASS bands and corner pieces provide both added support and protection. The INLAID BRASS CARTOUCHE is original and t is a MATCHING ESCUTCHEON. NO MISSING OR REPLACED VENEER. A key is provided and the lock works quite well. The box, when closed, measures 14âe x 9 1⁄2âe x 7âe, which is one of the larger sized boxes and the writing platform stands on a somewhat steeper incline than most which makes it more ergonomic to use. The top closes perfectly flush on the original hinges. The glass ink bottle with brass lid is original to the period of the box. Triple catch lock. Sliding slope clasp. Both storage sectionsbeneath the two halves of the writing surface
