Dramatic Cast of Fossil Dinosaur Track Right Rear Footprint of a
Theropod (bipedal, carnivorous) dinosaur Ichnospecies: Kayentapus minor (Weems, 1992) Upper Triassic, Balls Bluff Siltstone Approx. 215 million years old Culpeper County, VA This track cast is exceptional several respects. First, it is exceptionally distinct for any dinosaur track, clearly showing the individual fleshy pads and claw marks of each major digit. Second, it is late Triassic in age, making it older than most dinosaur tracks you will see (which are typically Jurassic or Cretaceous). Third, original track from which this cast was taken is a type specimen meaning that it was designated the master specimen for which a new track name was given: Kayentapus minor . Fourth, it was found on the largest late Triassic track site in the world, containing over 2000 tracks (which are no longer t This specimen was not only the clearest and best preserved on the site, it may also be the most distinct and best preserved late Triassic dinosaur track in the world. Because dinosaur skeletons are scarce in the eastern U.S., the track-maker species is uncertain, and probably remains to be discovered (the ichnospecies name refers to the track form itself, not the animal that made it). However, from the track shape and features it can be deduced that the track maker was a lightly built theropod (bipedal, meat-eating), dinosaur, probably standing about 6 - 8 foot tall. This museum-quality cast was carefully made using high-strength gypsum cement (taken from a mold of the original specimen), and was hand painted to reproduce the natural rock appearance. The track impression is approx. 7.5 x 9.5 inches, on an oval slab about 10 x 12 inches. This specimen would be great addition to any fossil collection,a super gift for any dinosaur enthusiast, and a wonderful educational tool. It comes with a hanger on the back and full identification label. Low Starting bid and no reserve. Winning bidder to pay 8.95 for FedEx Ground shipping or 9.95 for Priority Mail (2-3 day transit), in the contiguous U.S. Insurance is included with FedEx Grd; insurance is optional and 1.75 extra with Priority Mail. U.S. bidders only please. Payment by Paypal required. Thanks!
