The legendary terrier mutt and beloved icon for RCA Victor's phonograph was born in Bristol, England in 1884. He was duly named by his owner, Mark barraud, because of his tendancy to nip at people's calves. Upon the death of his master, the younger brother, Francis, a struggling painter, rescued the hound to Liverpool. The struggling artist was amused by the manner in which the dog would puzzledly tilt his head when records played, questioning of the source of the voice. The painter was inspired to capture the vision on canvas, entitled "His Master's Voice". The brand made its first appearance in 1900. Nip opens his mouth and moves his ears once the crank is turned .
