the album as 20 cabinet-card sized images, including two Boer War era soldiers, one a corporal, full length image with Weatherby revolver in holster and bayonet at belt, his broad brimmed military hat, rests on table to right with ribbon attached to folded side brim. A white ribbon at cuff of his left sleeve has DMP printed on it, with Wright & Son, Monument Hill, Bloemfontein imprint; second image is of a younger soldier and lacks any identifiable insignia, with S. King, Bloemfontein imprint. A photograph of a young lady has a clue to the family name with inscription that reads To Walker McEvily from sister B.T. McEvily, Caggan Galway Ireland, she wears a cap with pin in form of Prince of Wales Feathers. Given the number of photographs of the first soldier, both in and out of uniform, we believe this gentleman to be Walter. Also within this album is a card of a child postmortem, another of a one-man band, being a young man with guitar, horn, drum set and variety of bells at feet and ankles. The young man is missing one arm, possibly a war amputee. Other imprints included with following locations Altdonapa, Altoona, Pa., & Lowell, Mass. Several of the cards show the first soldier in civilian dress and slightly older, with and without wife and children and some of these are the American imprints. It appears likely that the family immigrated to the United States after the fathers` service in the army. There are also 8 CDV-sized images of family and friends, none of which are on American style cards, all were trimmed to fit this American album. The album itself is a fine example of an early 20th century music box album with chromolithograph cello cover of couple and child in an 18th century music room with embossed and chromo floral surround, flaring base, covered in green velvet with stamped brass corner mounts and brass ball feet and clasp. The fixed key wind music box is mounted in this base with key on underside and single comb with all teeth, marked Paillard, and operates when clasp is opened, 13 x 10.5 x 4.5” high.
