MY BOOK HOUSE - a COMPLETE 12 VOLUME HARDBACK SET edited by OLIVE BEAUPRE MILLER - 1971. The original version of this series was published in 1920, and the stories are just as magical today as they were then. In her foreword, Olive Beaupre Miller says, "Stories and poems a child hears and reads are the most important part of the foundation upon which his life is being built. MY BOOK HOUSE was definitely and consciously prepared to help educate children from the very earliest moment to meet life by calling out in them those qualities which make for the richest and fullest living." The books grow with the child. For example, Volume I has lots of beautifully colored illustrations for the very young child who relies on the visual to help them learn; while Volume 12 has wonderful photographs as well as pen & ink drawings to complement the words on the page. This is perfect for a child at any stage of development and makes an especially terrific gift for a young child who can begin at volume 1 and grow with the series. Condition Is Excellent. The bindings are so tight, I don't believe some of them were ever even opened before I examined them. This is as clean a set of books as you will find, especially for its 34 years! # BOOK 1 - In The Nursery - a careful selection of nursery rhymes and simple stories - including Mother Goose. # BOOK 2 - Story Time - begins with short, repetitive stories and progresses to slightly longer and more complicated stories. # BOOK 3 - Up One Pair Of Stairs - includes stories designed to lead the child out of the nursery and into the larger world. # BOOK 4 - Through The Gate - includes imaginative stories like "Cinderella" and "Snow White." # BOOK 5 - Over The Hills - Here the child travels further with stories like "Heidi In The Alpine Pasture" and "The Nuremberg Stove." # Book 6 - Through Fairy Halls" is intended for boys and girls who have reached an age when the fantastic adventures of folk tales have enormous appeal to youthful imaginations, including "Sleeping Beauty," and "The Lost Spear." # Book 7 - The Magic Garden - contains more tales of imagination from the literature of many countries. # Book 8 - Flying Sails - is meant for the period when the interest of boys and girls is turning from fairy tales to real stories of real adventure. # Book 9 - The Treasure Chest - continues with more true stories of stirring adventure. Stories like "Old Yeller" and "Buffalo Bill." # Book 10 - From The Tower Window - Primarily the book of romantic as well as heroic adventure, introducing characters like King Arthur and the Knights of the Roundtable. # Book 11 - In Shining Armor - continues and completes the romantic and epic tales. # Book 12 - Halls Of Fame - the stories here will help the child understand that behind every great achievement is one person's struggle to accomplish it. These are stories designed to help them understand that the most interesting things in life are attainable.
