RARE & AUTHENTIC MOAI (STATUE) KAVAKAVA (RIBS) with BIRD's HEAD known as TANGATA MANU (BIRD-MAN) from RAPA NUI (EASTER ISLAND) HANDCARVED in NATIVE WOOD (MIRO TAHITI) with EYES in BONE and volcanic OBSIDIAN ROCK - HARD TO FIND See special color of this wood: It's brown with yellow parts. UNIQUE READY TO GO! Measurements aprox: 24 inch. tall ( 61 cms.) 3.7 inch wide (9.5 cms.) Weight: 1223 grs. (2.7 lbs.) The Tangata manu ( bird-man ), was the winner of a traditional competition on Rapa Nui ( Easter Island ). The ritual was an annual competition to collect the first Sooty Tern (manu tara) egg of the season from the islet of Motu Nui , swim back to Rapa Nui and climb the sea cliff of Rano Kau to the clifftop village of Orongo . Birdmen ( Tangata manu ) paintings in the so-called "Cannibal Cave". Petroglyphs on rocks at Orongo . Make-make at base and two birdmen higher up Contestants were revealed in dreams by ivi-attuas (individuals with the gift of prophecy). The contestants would each appoint a Hopu who would swim to Motu Nui and fetch them the Egg; whilst the contestants waited at Orongo .
