This is my KCS N scale train collection from the about1992. Virtually not used as I went intoG scale about that time, even before I had an N-scale layout built. So you can consider most of these as virtually mint condition. The engines have been recently tested and run great. I am the original owner of all of but 1 of these units. All of these units are Kansas City Southern and all have Rapido couplers. Engines : 9 total that are powered. All in good working order. All in hard plastic cases. 4 Kato/Atlas Engines, all with professional custom paint jobs: There is 1 Kato SD-45, road number 623, model #176-315. This is a custom paint job by Steel Rail Lines. It is most professional. The unit is grey with big red lettering and yellow striped nose and yellow stripe alone side. There is 1 Atlas/Kato GP-30, road number 119, model #4721 “Undecorated”. Atlas units of this time where built by Kato. Usually they have “Atlas” on the bottom, but not this one, it has a Kato logo on the bottom. Only the box says “Atlas”. This unit is red with a black top and yellow KCS symbol and lettering (although there is not much lettering). It is a professional custom paint job, a most attractive unit. It was also painted by Steel Rail Lines. There is 1 Kato F-7a unit and 1 Kato F-7b unit. The A units Road # is 90, there is none for the B unit. Model #176 -090 and 176-220. Both of these models where originally, “Undecorated”, so these are also custom paint jobs. But I do not know who did them. I sure did not as they are professional jobs. The units are red black and yellow with yellow letters. Very attractive. They look nice with the passenger cars even though those cars are mostly black, they do have red and yellow stripes to compliment these F7 units. 3 Life Like engines: E8, Road number 29, Model #7191. In original factory paint scheme that complements the passenger cars. Also Red Yellow and Black, but has more yellow than red of the F7 units described above. Has yellow lettering. SD7, no road number, model #7734 “undecorated”. This one I painted all white and put large KCS decals on. Can’t say it is prototypical, it might be. I painted several of these engines all white so I suspect there were such paint schemes in KCS. Should have given it a road number either way. Not a professional paint job. BL2, no road number, model #7906. Another all white unit with big red KCS. KCS probably never had a BL2. I just liked these units, as they were inexpensive and good runners. Not a professional paint job. 2 Bachman engines, both identical. F7A, Model #11251 “undecorated”, no road number, white with large red letters. I am real reluctant to sell Bachman N scale units of this time period as most of them are bad. Once in a while back then you would get lucky and it would be a good runner. These units were from Bachman’s “Plus” line, which was an attempt to upgrade the quality (or lack of it). Where I spent little running time to test the Kato/Atlas or Life Like engines, I ran these two for half an hour in both directions and at different speeds. I really wanted to break them. I didn’t want to have an upset buyer on my hands. But they wouldn’t break. They tend to run noisy and vibrate at low speed. So please do not expect much of these units. Once again, it is my simple all white paint job with large red KCS decals. They might be prototypical. You will probably need to lubricate the engines as they have been in storage a long time. I do not like to do that before shipping as there are widely different opinions as to how much lubricant is enough or too much. Cars : 12 total, all in hard plastic cases except for 4 passenger cars (will be packed carefully) There are 4 Con-Cor passenger cars. Because I am missing their original cases, which I might find before I ship, I cannot give you the model numbers. They appear to be a coach, diner, sleeper and observation.
