Up for auction is a Nakano Yunami 65mm Plane Blade. This blade was purchased from Robert Meadow at the Lutherie 18 years ago. Main blade has a hand scraped hollow and is signed on the front and back. The sub blade is also signed. Below is a descrition of what the writing on the blades may mean: All inscriptions read from top to bottom, starting with the right column. On the face of the blade and inside of the chipbreaker, the smaller characters are Sado no (w "no" is more or less equivalent to our " 's" suffix), and the two larger ones are "Yuu" (Toshio Odate writes it as a single u with line above, both indicating that it is held longer when speaking) and "Nani." I asked Osamu about naming blades something related to evening rather than dawn, and he suggested that maybe that is an expression of the relaxation one should feel at the end of the day - maybe something to look forward to while working? On the back of the blade, the right column tells when it was made, the next is the maker's name (Nakano Tadatsuga - no comma because they always write the family name first), and the short left one is his location. Looking at the different surfaces of the face of the blade, Osamu guessed that the top might be clouds over the island, and that the horizontally-striated steel portion might represent very small waves of calm water surrounding it. Of course, without being able to ask the maker, that is only a guess
