Named Colonel WWII US Officers Cap Craig Field Alabama This cap belonged to Lieutenant Colonel E.C. Locke. Still legible, it is marked with his name and Craig Field inside. The proper title is Colonel for both a Light Colonel and a Full Colonel. His name is clearly marked with his service number. The cap is in nice serviceable condition. It is made of a beautiful, khaki colored officers grade material with a silky nylon blue liner. This is definitely a higher grade special purpose cap that he took pride in. I did a little research on Craig field below, I will leave additional research to the next owner. Craig Field is that it was named for Bruce K. Craig, Jr., who was a Flight Test Engineer for Consolidated Aircraft and was killed in the crash of the prototype Liberator LB-30 (serial AL503) as it was undergoing test at San Diego on 2 June 1941. The crash also took the lives of CAC Chief Test Pilot William Wheatley, co-pilot Alan Austen, and two chief mechanics, Lewis McCannon and William Reiser. T were no survivors. After I enlisted on Dec 8 1941, I was sent to Maxwell Field in Jan 42, they were so overcrowded many other aviation cadets were sent to Craig field.
