MYSTERY AT LILAC INN
NANCY DREW, BY CAROLYNN KEEN (pen name for Mildred Wirt)
Older version, 1930's 25 chapters
with Hannah away, Nancy must fine a temporary housekeeper and the interviewing process shows much of the bias of that era. Nancy interviews (in the words of the book) a "colored woman", an Irish woman, a Scotch lassie, and a gypsy before finally hiring an elderly woman.
Nancy searches for stolen gems, is captured by thugs and the ending is fun, but I was surprised at the bias in the first two chapters. This is a great book for a collector, but I think a child would be confused.
The inner pages list The Haunted Showboat and Dana Girls Winking Ruby last. Blue tweed book is in very good condition, very MINOR wear, NO real corner bumps, NO odors, NO writing. Previously owned and read, but very good, near excellent condition.
Dust jacket has a complete tear at the right edge and a large chip at the bottom. Small chip, upper spine. Back cover is very, very good. The cover has mylar to help keep it from getting worse with age.
