Meteorite - Location: Nantan¸ China. we have a meteorite that is partially composed of iron along with some other lighter (less dense) material. This was part of the Nantan meteorite that fell in China in 1516. The meteorite is mostly iron but obviously contains other less dense material (probably 'rock' material). The heterogeneous mixture of iron and other components is readily noticeable from the fact that this meteorite is much lighter in weight than the more common iron/nickel type of meteorite. The meteorite fragments are usually sprayed with a thin acrylic coating in order to protect the meteorite from moisture which would cause rusting.
