This is a signed Martin Brown Nantucket Basket for the serious collector or Nantucket Basket enthusiast. It has a certificate of authenticity which is pictured in two of the featured images. It was purchased in 2002 for $1800. from Edgartown Schrimshaw on Martha's Vineyard... receipts will be provided. They have since valued this 7" basket at $2000. and it will continue to increase in value over time. The starfish on the top, the spacers, and toggle for the clasp are ivory..... this ivory was present in the States prior to the embargo. The wood on the basket is rare ebony wood which was salvaged from a shipwreck off of Cuttyhunk and referred to as "Cuttyhunk Ebony". The interior of the lid has an ivory plaque with the initials 'hPs' an can be replaced through Edgartown Scrimshaw for approximately $85.00. The basket also features a "comfort handle" .... a signature of a Martin Brown design. The basket has not been used.... it has been stored in a closet in a climate controlled and smoke free home.
