A wonderful example of the best of the best of Nantucket lighthouse basket purses. Terry Sylvia has been weaving Nantucket baskets and selling them on the island for well over 40 years. Each basket features a traditional body style which she modernizes with the use of slender oak ribs. She now teaches her craft to a new generation of artisans. For collectors of these baskets, this is a great addition! According to her craft guild website, Terry's basket purses now start at $1100. I was with my grandmother in 1990 when she purchased this basket for $800 (not including the scrim which has been removed as it was customized with her name). She never carried or used the basket - any anomalies are of the maker's hand or simply 25 years of storage.Dimensions are approximately 11" L x 8" W x 11.25 high at widest points with handle at top; exterior measurement of basket only is approximately 10" L x 7" W x 6" H; interior basket depth is approximately 5".Condition: Very Good - see photos for some drips in the varnish and glue residue/pin holes from the removed plaques. All easily cleaned up, but I have left as-is.
