Warrior Aid & Litter Kit (WALK), NSN 6545-0 Benefit Against the Threat Attacks against lightly armored vehicles continue to be a source of injury and death to our Soldiers. They must rely on equipment carried on the vehicles and individuals to provide care and conduct evacuation. The current vehicle first aid kit cannot meet the minimum requirements for life saving. A need exists for a WALK that can be carried on every vehicle traveling in a convoy or on a combat patrol within the current tactical theaters. Product Description The WALK will be stowed onboard vehicles to be used by the first responder. The WALK will not replace the Improved First Aid Kit (IFAK) or the Combat Life Saver Bag , but will be complimentary to both and will contain a foldable litter and provide the tools to treat and overcome the three most common causes of preventable combat deaths on the battlefield (hemorrhaging, tension pneumothorax, and inadequate airway). Numerous observations and After Action Reviews compiled from Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom indicate that the current first aid kit on vehicles used for tactical operations should be replaced with a capability targeted at decreasing preventable combat death. Designed using input from both the Warfighter and Tactical Health Care Professional the Warrior Aid and Litter Kit™ (WALK™) meets this challenge. With a stream-lined pocket system built around the capacity to carry the quad-fold 90C Talon® Litter, the WALK™ gives true definition to the term “aid and litter.” This new capability increases warfighter survivability at the point of wounding by providing basic self- and buddy-aid level medical equipment coupled with a rigid evacuation platform that interfaces with any standard or non-standard casualty evacuation asset.
