This is a Very Nice looking Nashville Plow Works Confederate States Of America (CSA) Civil War Saber. But, I am not sure to the authenticity of the item.. In other words: Is it real? I do not know.. So, since I am complete unsure if it is from 1860 (the Civil War) or 1960 (The centennial of the Civil War), I am presenting it as a real old looking, real old feeling, real nice, really not sure if it is real reproduction. It has a sharp point (not dull like most reproductions).. It has a Nice and Old looking brass Cap and Grip and the Old looking Blade feels like at one time it did have some sort of sharpness in the middle of the blade.. (I am really trying to be as honest and detailed with this description so bear with me please) I have looked at lots different web sites that show this model of CSA Saber with the look and feel features that this one has and it sure looks like it could be from the 1860's and to top it all off this Saber and Scabbier are both in Great Condition. The Saber is approximately 35.5 inches long to the hilt and a total of approximately 40.5 inches long from tip to tail and in Great Condition with the well made steel being free of nicks and chips and looking old. The Scabbier is approximately 36 inches long and the Saber fits nice and tight into it with no real slop. T is no marking of any kind besides the part that protects your knuckles and hand that says anything about the maker (which I found out was the way they were made) As I said The metal of the blade looks old and has no chips or rust, the Grip Wire is completely in tack with twists to the right. The Leather grip under the wire looks old and is also in tack some black remaining but mostly the brown of the leather showing through. The what ever you call the part that protects your hand has is made of brass and has Nashville Plow Works and CSA in block lettering, The Scabbier has a few dings which can be from normal age and wear and has a nice patina, It has 2 brass holders with buckles and some original paint left on it. I have not tried to clean polish or re-sharpen any parts of this saber because I didn't think you are supposed to. Anyway, this is a real looking, real feeling and possible a real CSA Nashville Plow Works Civil War Saber. It is very possible this sword has a true Old Southern origins.. This is some information I found out about the Company: Nashville Plow Works (Sharp & Hamilton) Nashville, Tennessee: Prior to the war, the Nashville Plow Works, operated by Messrs. Sharp and Hamilton, produced farm implements. With the coming of the war, however, the proprietors rightly guessed that farm equipment would not be selling well and converted their shop to the production of swords, taking the Biblical injunction of "beat your plowshares into swords...." (Joel 3:10) quite literally. It is unknown to date whether the firm manufactured anything other than swords. The Nashville Plow Works continued operation until Union forces took Nashville on April 1, 1862. At this time, the proprietors of the firm were charged with treason and arrested, thus effectively ending the firm's existence. The number of sabers produced by the Nashville Plow Works is unknown. However, based on the number of pieces that still exist, it can be surmised that Sharp & Hamilton turned out a large quantity of swords before apprehension by Union troops. These weapons are distinct in character, having only the firm's name and "CSA" cast in their brass guards. So thank you for allowing me to share this Very Nice looking Nashville Plow Works Confederate States of America (CSA) Civil War Saber with you be it real or a reproduction.
