This sword is in solid condition for its age. I have never cleaned the sword and it has been kept in a display case the entire time that I have owned it. It does appear to be a boarding sword by all definition and research that I have done. Nathan Starr was commissioned to manufactor swords for the Navy during the post Revolutionary War period. The handle has been painted silver by someone in the past but I can see the hardwood in a couple spots. T are no cracks in the handle and the blade is tight and in solid condition as well. The markings on the blade are "N Starr" and US P 1.R. . I could not get enough clarity the images to make the marking show. I am not an expert on swords, just a collecter. The History Store has a website and will authenticate American made swords for a small fee. At any rate it has been the centerpiece of my collection as far as superior condition. Insured Priority Mail shipping is $15, well packaged, and shipped quickly. The sword itself is 29 1/2 inches in length. The scabbard is in fair condition. No suprises, just a fine collectible! We recently moved from our house into a loft that is 1/3 of the size, forcingme to sell many of my most valued collectibles. These offering will bewithout reserve, so the highest bidder wins.
