National Republican Convention Badge, Chicago June 1908 Two-Piece plus ribbon Alternate Badge Choice Extremely Fine+ Exceptional National Republican Convention âeoeAlternateâe Badge, Chicago , June 1908. 2-Piece plus red-white-red ribbon badge, Gilt with blue and white celluloid insert in drop, 68 x 130 mm overall, by The Greenduck Co. , Engravers, Chicago. Top bar of badge features a central image of the United States Capitol building flanked on either side by an American flag and eagle; the shield-shaped drop features a central celluloid insert with the legend NATIONAL REPUBLICAN CONVENTION / CHICAGO / JUNE / 1908 surrounded by a laurel wreath tied by a ribbon at the top all on a stars and stripes shield with banner above inscribed âeoeALTERNATEâe. A bright red-white-red ribbon is suspended from the top bar. The pinback is complete and intact. The back of the top bar and drop are both marked THE GREENDUCK CO. ENGRAVERS / CHICAGO. The 1908 Republican National Convention , the fourteenth presidential nominating convention of the Republican Party of the United States , was held in Chicago Coliseum , Chicago , Illinois on July 16 to July 19 , 1908 . It convened to nominate a successor to the popular GOP President , Theodore Roosevelt and his Vice President, Charles W. Fairbanks . In the event, United States Secretary of War William Howard Taft of Ohio won Roosevelt 's endorsement and received the nomination.
