I am an Aannishinabe; one of the Original People. My people Created the original Dreamcatcher. The elders didn't have wire rings from Wally World nor did they have all that fuzzy crap and plastic junk. My Dreamcatcher is made the old way with a red willow hoop and glass beads by hand. This one is made to resemble a Lacrosse stick. Also t are 2 feathers attached - This is a delicate looking dreamcatcher although willow is actually very durable and lasting if cared for properly. It is passed through the Oral Tradition that when the tribe was at war and the village had to be moved the elders and the women gatd the children. Those children who had already seen horrific things happen during the fighting could not sleep. Without rest the children will perish and many of the people also. Many will not go if the children cannot travel. They will wait until they are rested. The elders knew that t was no time to wait. So they gatd the children and told them about this web and that it would help them to sleep by capturing their bad dreams. That night it worked and the tribe made it's escape the next day. Without the Dreamcatcher this band of Ojibwe people would have perished. The design and the construction is very common to the Aannishinabe as they commonly made snow shoes and LaCrosse sticks.
