These items were handmade by an Ojibwe craftsman of the White Earth Band Of Chippewa Indians. He is a Mississippi Band Chippewa and his family Clan is that of the Bear. These items were sewn in a traditional moccasin stitch. The leather is deerskin which has been brain tanned and smoked (the old way). These bags have been decorated with Megis shells. The Megis are sacred to the 3 fires people. Ojibwa or Chippewa (Annishinabe'), Pottawatomi, and the Ottowa. The shells harp back to the migration of our peoples from the Northeastern US and Canada to the Great Lakes Region. Both Pipe bag and Tobacco pouch have tag which explain about Braintanned leather and the Megis shell. Thank you for your interest! Miigwetch!
