This is a painting of a large buck deer jumping in the forest. The size is 29 by 23 inches including the frame. The artist is Reuben Holmes St. Clair. It is signed on the front and also the back has information as shown. This is a painting on board with a rustic custom hand made pine frame. I have researched this artist and he was a very interesting man! He was a Native American from the Lower Sioux Indian reservation in Morton Minnesota. He was also a soldier in WW2 and was a code talker. He was in the United States Army and was a forward observer on the front line. He fought in the division at Omaha Beachhead at Normandy. He and another soldier Sgt. Demaris who also spoke the Dakota language were used to relay information on the front lines. The Germans were never able to figure out the language and many American lives were saved because of these Indian code talkers. I found all this information on the internet. I also found that Mr. St. Clair died in 1985 from Minnesota Public records. This is all the info I have on him. I did call the Lower Sioux reservation in Morton to ask more about him, but I was told they do not give out any personal information about any tribal member. The painting is beautiful as shown, and will be a wonderful addition to your art collection. I estimate it is 1940's or 50's vintage. Buyer pays 15.00 shipping
