The story of the NatWest pigs: The family of pigs starts with baby Woody, who was the opening gift for children who started a National Westminster Bank account with a minimum of £5. After six months, if the account contained at least £25, they received Annabel. After one year, if the account had grown to £50 or more, the savers received Maxwell. At eighteen months if the account held £75 the children were rewarded with Lady Hillary. After two years, if the account had risen to at least £100, Sir Nathaniel was presented. In total Wade produced around 5 million pigs. Maxwell the son, was named after Sir Robert Maxwell, the disgraced newspaper magnate. The NatWest bank did little to promote that figure, the release of which coincided with his downfall. Less were produced which now reflects on its value which is around £30 to £40. Many children were unable to save to the £100 mark so far fewer of the Sir Nathaniel pigs were produced, resulting in his higher value.
