This listing is for a NAUDET ships barometer w/curved quicksilver thermometer,( cannot use that dangerous word, even though millions of screw in flourescent bulbs have the same element in them, scientifically known as "Hg"), that is graduated in Fahrenheit. Dial graduated in inches of mercry. Dial is engraved, silver plated, and is marked "JOHN BLISS&CO New York" I believe Bliss& Cos was a ships chandler in the 1880's to early 1900's. Dial is a 6", o.a. diameter of 7 1/2", will protrude 4" from wall, or your vessel's bulkhead. Case is SOLID RED BRASS, not spun, and would be a perfect match for your early CHELSEA CLOCK, as PHBN,( Pertious, Hulot, Naudet Barometres), was the barometer maker for Chelsea Clock Company for MANY Years. This movement is very ornate, with thick early capsule, blued hairspring and screws. Case has been relacquered for preservation, ("PATINA" is CORROSION, and if left unchecked will DESTROY the case). VERY accurate early instrument, dating from the early steam days, last of the commercial sailing period,( who knows, freight could be moved by sail again?). Weighs in at 8lbs, so be aware of this as it can be costly to ship.
