This is a beautiful nautical instrument mounted on a wall plaque for display. It is believed to be a 19th century piece made by HEATH &COMPANY OF LONDON FOR; J. BLOWEY OF PLYMOUTH UK. It has the desirable bell pattern frame and a beautiful sterling silver scale which is fitted into the arc (limb). The limb is engraved above the scale; "Made for J. Blowey of Plymouth" and stamped with the numbers 5045. The sighting telescope is of brass and is clear in vision, The mirrors are in good condition and both sets of shades (index and horizon) are all present and also in great shape; on one side of the horizon mirror base is the word Hezzanith and on the other side the following: Patent # 159LR (as best as we can read it). The sextant handle is made of a real nice dark hard wood. J. Blowey was a very well known dealer and calibrator of nautical instruments. The frame has been painted by hand and this is noticeable upon close inspection. If I was to keep this piece, I think I would re-paint it The sextant is mounted with three screws through the three stand bars and the whole thing can be removed from the base with no ill effect on the instrument.
