NAUTILUS PORCELAIN HANDPAINTED CABINET PLATE BLUSH ART NOUVEAU c1910, SCOTLAND D This offer is for a Handpainted Art Nouveau Plate By Nautilus Porcelain Co. The Possil Works Glasgow, Scotland 1896 - 1913 . If ever a city, on the very edges of Europe, was inspired by French Art Nouveau it is Glasgow. Charles Rennie Macintosh added his style and the people of Glasgow fell in love with all things Art Nouveau and made it part of the story of Glasgow. Art Nouveau emphasises the flowing lines of the plant world. This superb plate does that two ways. The Plate is the shape of a flat, open flower head with folded scalloped petals over soft turquoise outer petals. The ground colour is a fine champagne blush which shades to darker coffee tones at the edges. The plate is handpainted with a superb fine flower spray of Chrysanthinums in typical, asymetric, flowing lines. The plate is also very well gilded. Diameter - 21 cm The Plate is in superb condition There are no chips or cracks. There is virtually no wear to the gilding . The plate has a loud clear ping.
