This old Navaho Indian rug measures approximately 63" x 51" and features an overall serrate design with 2 floating comb elements enclosed by an outlined stepped fret border. The colors are white, brown, black, hand carded gray, and a variegated red field. An outlining of the border at one end in purple yarn is also present. Yarn count: 6 warps and 12 to 16 wefts per inch. Handspun wool. Considering its age, the weaving is in Good/Very Good condition. The perimeter is 91% intact with roughly 20" of broken or missing warp and weft selvage cord. Corner tassel count: 2 complete; 2 partial. All show wear (please see pictures). Please also note the following conditions: 1) There are 3 damaged areas along one end (pictured up close); 2) 3 noticeable holes are pictured up close; 3) Some bleed of the red dye is in some of the white wool; 4) A handful of places where there is a break or two in the warp; and 5) NO spots or stains other than the moderate bleed already mentioned. It comes from a smoke free home. Lays/hangs flat. Both sides are pictured. Lazy lines. c. 1900. 5' 3" x 4' 3". This late Transitional/early rug period Navajo weaving is relatively heavy (7 to 8 lbs.). It is ready to enjoy "as is" in your home or office. NO reserve. No Reserve.
