Exceptional Alice Cling vase, 3 3/8" tall with a 6 1/4" diameter. The diameters of the base and mouth are 1 3/8" and 7/8" respectively. Signed "Alice Cling" on the bottom. The pot is thin-walled with a beautiful color variation ranging from red to orange to brown to black tones. The highly stylized and stunningly proportioned vase is in perfect condition and is an excellent example of Alice's finest work.Alice Cling's pottery is extremely sought after by collectors. Her unmistakable style, the unique combination of form, proportion, color and quality, has set her work apart from all other Indian pottery being created today. Her pieces are entirely hand-made, from digging and preparing the clay to hand constructing the pot, and finally to firing it in a wood fire. Each piece is then coated with a thin veneer of melted pine pitch, enhancing the distinct interplay of the natural brown, red, orange and black colors that result from the firing. The end result is a deceptively simple, austere and elegant artwork that has catapulted her to the forefront of contemporary Navajo pottery. Alice's work is featured in numerous books, including "Enduring Traditions" by Lois Essary Jacka, "Southwestern Pottery" by Allan Hayes and John Blom, "Treasures of the Navajo" by Theda Bassman, and "Pottery by American Indian Women: The Legacy of Generations" read more
