This is a Live Firing, hand made replica of the 24lb Naval Cannon from the USS Constitution. The Barrel was machined from solid Brass and the truniouns are pegged and brazed in place to make for a very strong barrel for Black powder firring. The barrel is 11.5 inches long 50 cal. and the fuse hole is for a 1/8 inch fuse. Total model dementions are aprox. 11.5 L X 5.0 W. The Carraige is made of Oak and Poplar with solid oak axles, and oak wheels. The wood parts of the carraige are painted and then clear coated in the traditional Red and Black of the era. All parts in cluding the square blocks, (the part that hold the cannon in the carraige), elevation block, and wheels all work and the entire carraige can be disassembled. All other hardware was machined from solid brass. All brass parts are finished with Birchwood Casey's Brass Black finish, this is like blueing for brass but does not result in a total black finish. The barrel and other brass parts still show some brass through the finish giving the model an antique look. These parts are then clear coated with lacquer. This Cannon was a demonstration model and has about a dozen live firings under it's belt, The barrel also shows some wear of the finish as seen in the pictures, most notably at the muzzel, fuse hole and on the trunions.
