The US Navy's 77th Construction Battalion spent World War II in the South Pacific, and "We Did" was issued by the Navy in 1946 to commemorate the unit's service. It's a large (9"x12") padded hardcover with blue leatherette cover and 287 pages. There are loads of black and white photos throughout, and chapters documenting all the unit's stops, from Camp Peary, Williamsburg, VA to Guadalcanal, Vella La Vella, Bougainville, Emirau, Australia and finally the Philippines. The battallion personnel are all pictured. The book is in good condition. The cover is soiled and faded, with wear along the edges and at the corners. The book is slightly cocked. The interior is unmarked. The binding is sound, if a tad loose. It comes with some related ephemera. The unit lost five men during the war, and this particular copy was sent to the family of one of these men. Included here is the original telegram they received in January 1944 informing them of the death, plus newspaper obituaries, a large photo of the soldier, and a letter written by his commanding officer describing the circumstances.
