Howdy folks! This is Pastor Creig. I'm still doing some Spring cleaning and 's another item! This auction is the King of Auctions (I think) that relate to the Hitler Diaries! 's all of what you get: An actual complete full copy of Der Stern (the star) magazine from April 28, 1983. It's all in German (of course). The magazine paid over 10 million German Marks for the "diaries" which was over 3 million US dollars at the time (or 7.5 million today). T were over 2.25 million issues printed but in the aftermath most were rounded up and destroyed leaving such complete issues as mine (that came straight from Germany) few and scarce to find. $elling Hitler This is a 2 VHS tape set. It is a 1991 television mini-series based on the book of the same name by Robert Harris , was produced for the British television channel ITV . It was directed by Alastair Reid. Selling Hitler - this is the definitive book about the Diaries written by Robert Harris. (If you'll look in the close up section of the handwritten letter - you'll see David Irving mention this book in a positive light. A Copy of the Sunday Times 4/24/1983 - this is one of the newspapers that Rupert Murdoch owned (maybe he still owns it) and that Hugh-Trevor Roper was at that time a director of Times Newspapers, and although he denied acting dishonestly (in authenticating the Diaries), t was a clear conflict of interests, because The Sunday Times had already paid a substantial sum for the rights to serialise the diaries in the UK of which this is the first issue. A Copy of Newsweek magazine (label on front cover) from May 2, 1983. A Copy of Time magazine (label on front cover) from May 16, 1983. A Handwritten personal letter including the envelope w/stamps from David Irving to me. This was dated 9/5/2006 while Irving was serving a sentence (Feb. - Dec. 2006) for a violation of section 3g of the Verbotsgesetz law in Austria. In 1983, Irving played a major role in the Hitler Diaries controversy. Irving was an early proponent of the argument that the diaries were a forgery, and went so far as to crash the press conference held by Hugh Trevor-Roper at the Hamburg offices of Der Stern magazine on 25 April 1983 to denounce the diaries as a forgery and Trevor-Roper for endorsing the diaries as genuine (Trevor-Roper had called the press conference to announce his withdrawal of his endorsement, arguably rendering Irving's attack on Trevor-Roper irrelevant).Irving's performance at the Der Stern press conference w he violently harangued Trevor-Roper until ejected by security led him to be featured prominently on the news and the next day Irving appeared on Today television show as a featured guest However, a week later on May 2 , Irving reversed himself and claimed the diaries were genuine; at the same press conference, Irving took the opportunity to promote his translation of the memoirs of HitlerÂ's physician Dr. Theodor Morell . Robert Harris in his book Selling Hitler suggested that an additional reason for Irving's change of mind over the authenticity of the alleged Hitler diaries was that the alleged diaries contain no reference to the Holocaust, tby buttressing Irving's claim in Hitler's War that Hitler had no knowledge of the Holocaust.Subsequently Irving reversed himself again when the diaries were revealed as a forgery. At a press conference held to withdraw his endorsement of the diaries, Irving proudly claimed that he was the first to call the diaries a forgery, to which a reporter replied that he was also the last to call the diaries genuine. In his later accounts of his role in the Hitler Diaries matter, Irving has always mentioned his role as proponent of the theory that the diaries were fake while ignoring his change of opinion about their authenticity. A special section of The Star newspaper (not Der Stern ) from what I have researched I believe this newspaper The Star (Amman newspaper), was an English-language newspaper published in Amman, Jordan.
