Oil Painting by Gracia Marie (Perry) Nordyke. The untitled painting depicts a herd of pronghorn antelope possibly grazing along the Elkhorn River in Antelope County, Nebraska. The artist captures the changing colors of the fall season on the Nebraska prairie. The size of the oil painting with plain burnished gold frame measures approximately 31 3/8 inches wide by 25 1/4 high. The painting is signed by the artist in the lower right corner but is not dated. The painting is in very good condition with no restoration but it has never been cleaned over the years.The biographical information on the artist is as follows: Born in 1898 in West Cedar Valley also known as Taylor Valley Antelope County, Nebraska. In 1929 she married Ray Nordyke at Elgin Nebraska. After graduating from UNL she taught school in several Nebraska towns (Crofton, Fremont, North Loup, & Scribner) as well as Cody Wyoming. Ray was a county agent in Sweet Water Wyoming. They resided at Green River Wyoming. In 1943 they moved to Plainview, Nebraska where Ray managed over 100 farms. Eventually, they purchased a home and moved to Neligh, Nebraska. Gracia, better known as Marie, was a charter member of the Neligh Music & Book Club.
