The Necronomicon : The Book of Dead Names 1978 Edited By, George Hay , Introduced By, Colin Wilson , Researched By, Robert Turner and David Langford . Connoisseurs of the occult have for years been tantalized by references to a mysterious book, allegedly written by an insane Arab philosopher, which was stated to convey the most shocking truths about mankind’s true origin. But w was the book ? Demands for it have for many years been troubling the British Museum and other such repositories of learning. T librarians will tfore doubtless be glad to know that in future such queries can be addressed to us. For a book that is unobtainable the Necronomicon has manage to acquire an awesome reputation. One fragment has appeared in a strictly limited edition, since this was in a script of great antiquity, translations have proven problematical. It was, in fact, the irritating obscurity in which the whole subject was wrapped that helped George Hay convince such experts in life’s dark side as Angela Carter, Dr. Christopher Frayling and L. Sprague de Camp of the need for a more penetrating look into H. P. Lovecraft’s role in the story than it had hitherto received. As a result of these inquiries, and of David Langford’s application of computer technology to the book and it’s providence, it became apparent that studies of the Cthulhu mythos would have to be totally recast. Bluntly, we are no longer dealing with fiction. In fact, while this book was in preparation, one of it’s contributors came up with stunning new evidence of the real existence of the Necronomicon. Especially fortunate were the circumstances that enabled Colin Wilson to participate actively in the researches involved. It is fitting indeed that the work which originated- or did it ? – With Abdul al-Hazred and has been made available now through twentieth century science should be examined and be set forth by one considered by many to be this century’s greatest student of the occult. Particular care has been taken in the preparation of the architectural drawings and in the reproduction of the relevant manuscripts, we believe will prove of considerable value in view of the marked absence hitherto of such material. Contained within this Scarce Work is a Rare Working Grimoire Entitled “ Al Azif; Ye Booke of Ye Arab ”.
