Five Ancient Egyptian Faience Amulets
This collection of five small faience amulets are all from the ancient Egyptian Late to Ptolemaic Periods. They represent a terrific starter collection of authentic ancient Egyptian artifacts. At only $35 each, the opening reserve is $175. From top to bottom, left to right, they represent the; god Bes, the god Shu, the royal Red Crown of Lower Egypt, the Eye of Horus, and a Sow (associated with the sky goddess Nut). All amulets are intact and complete, with the exception of the Eye of Horus where a tiny chip is found on the reverse. They are all of blue/green faience.Generally speaking;The frightful dwarf god Bes was a protector of the home, women during childbirth, and especially younger children. He would scare away hostile entities, and protect those around him.The god Shu was believed to hold up the sky and all that was in it.The Red Crown (Deshret) was associated with Lower (northern) Egypt and the god Horus. In that regard, it was likewise associated with the Pharaoh who was the incarnation of Horus.The Eye of Horus was worn for maintaining good heath. It represented the restored eye that Horus lost while fighting his uncle Set. The sow was associated with the sky and goddess Nut. It represent the night sky, filled with stars. Just as the sow might be surrounded by her piglets, the night sky was filled and surround with stars.-----Szes range from approximately 1.2 cm to 2.1 cm.Condition is best described as authentic, ancient, and very good.
