It is a drop leaf coffee table -- when the leaves are down it has the proportions of a smaller coffee table but with both leaves up, it becomes a large table suitable for entertaining a crowd or holding a number of magazines, etc (specific dimensions below). It rests on lathe turned legs which end in block and ball feet. This exquisite table still has its original label on the bottom from the Statton furniture company, one of America's finest furniture makers (see below for information on Statton). About Statton Furniture: The Statton Furniture Company of Hagerstown, Maryland is still owned and operated by the original founding family. Established in 1926, Statton has been quietly producing distinctive furniture of uncompromising quality for three generations. Statton is a leader in quality, bench-made cherry traditional furniture and takes great pride in highly crafted custom work and years of expertise. Statton makes top-of-the-line furniture with hand-carved, richly detailed moldings. Every Statton piece is unique and each item is stamped with the date and identification number of the cabinet maker who built it. Statton furniture is in both the White House and in Camp David. . Age (circa) c1950 Dimensions This table is 17" High and 40" X 21" which opens to 40" X 40" when the leaves are up. : Condition Excellent condition. This vintage piece has been lovingly cared for for the last 40 years. It is sturdy and has a beautiful patina. T is no damage, no scratches or dark marks. It's not new and demonstrates a few character marks and a bit of minor finish wear but it has no significant signs of age or use. Provenance The early 19th century home was set on a bucolic acre which had its own lake . The backyard was filled with nesting geese and a pair of swans who have apparently been nesting and breeding t for many years. The home was packed with treasures -- furniture, art and collectibles and these people had a very discerning eye. They had beautiful furniture, fine art that demonstrated eclectic taste as well as exquisite collectibles. Their collections ranged widely from 19th century antiques all the way through mid-20th century modernist items and their huge home was eclectically furnished ... but with only the finest things.
