Sevres Centerpiece 18th C Compote Worthy Of Millionaire
Hi. To give you a comparison of sizes, the compote next to this is 11" across and 6" high. NThat tgives you an idea of the impressive size of this. SIZE: 14" across the top, 15" tall. W ever you display this, it will be a center attraction, a substantial piece of porcelain. One of the most impressive items I have ever listed. Pristine condition, no chips cracks no nicks no repairs.
Typical Sevres pink and green colors, Either a late 17th century item, more likely an 18th century circa 1850. T is a faint backstamp or mark in green, not legible. It could be a Sevres mark but it is not legible. A gorgeous piece of porcelain, done in a bisque finish. Note the Greek influence of garlands and three Corinthian colums.
SHIPPING: The shipping will be $18-$42, the East Coast the lower quote, the West Coast the higher charge.
BRIEF HISTORY: YOU MAY SKIP THIS-- IT IS NOT CRUCIAL. I purchased a pair of these for $550 at a rather high end Llive auction, S & S Auctions in Swedsboro New Jersey. Any and All items sold at this live auction are magnificent items. Sadly I can only buy one out of every 100 items I want. Most buyers are dealers who own established shops and can get far more than I can for items. At this live auction, after you are the high bidder of an item, your buyers number is placed on the item, the item is placed in a glass case. After you pay for your items, you then pack them. Someone approached me about the compotes an hour after I "won" them. That person came to bid on the Jaguar, all-teac sailboat and Hummer which were for sale later. Long story short, I was offered $900 for the pair of compotes. To "HEDGE MY BET" as professional dealers call it, I sold one of them for $450. Since I have NO IDEA of the Real worth of this, it was a "semi-smart move", to get most of my investment back BEFORE I left the auction. Had I NOT sold one of these, I would have to get a minimum $500 for this, to make it worth the time and effort. Now, I can offer this for a lesser price. Maybe I SHOULD have taken the $900 for the pair. I will find out in 10 days after this auction ois over. I do believe this is quite a valuable item, worth far more than the reserve. Thank you.
