Note: The color may vary slightly due to photography Description This Fantastic Collectable Antique is from the rare and beautiful Hongshan Culture (3500~2500BC). This item is a Jade Pregnant Creature Pendant and was unearthed from the North-Eastern part of China . History The Neolithic Period began in China around 10,000 B.C. and continued on for the next 8,000 years, introducing metallurgy. This was an extremely prolific period in history with many styles of art and craftsmanship. The Neolithic Period established agricultural villages, making pottery, jade and stone tools and weapons, cooking utensils, bronzes, and magnificent sculptures made from many different types of materials. Groups of artifacts trace that a distinctly Chinese artistic tradition began during the middle of the Neolithic period, about 4000 B.C. The first group of artifacts is the painted pottery found at numerous sites along the Yellow River basin and the second group of Neolithic artifacts consists of pottery and jade carvings from the eastern seaboard and the lower reaches of the Yangzi River in the south . The use of jade made the most lasting contribution to Chinese civilization of all aspects of the Neolithic cultures in eastern China . The Hongshan culture was a Neolithic culture in northeastern China . Hongshan sites have been found in an area stretching from Inner Mongolia to Liaoning and Hebei, and dated five to six thousands years and lasted for two thousands years. Hongshan grave goods include some of the earliest known examples of Chinese jade working . Their themes for the many jade artifacts derived from birds and animals of which the designs carried female supple nature. Jade has had a history in China for well over 4000 years.
