Uranium Glass Tubing

Up for bid is a very old neon sign or parts of it. This sign is a hanging window sign. The maker is unknown but it looks commercial. It's old and dirty but it still works and it has a very unique type of neon tube. It has a classic color, not often seen, called uranium glass--sort of a pretty chartreuse. Uranium glass is a clear yellow color glass tube pumped with argon. McKesson Medicines of old used this color on their advertising clocks. The tube has never been broken and it operates with the old installed core and coil transformer just perfectly. The sign originally had a thick glass plate with an etched design attached to the front of the can and the attached plate was surrounded by the uranium tube. The tube when lit made the etching illuminate and create the message to the viewer. The can has its original paint which shows signs of age and use and could be cleaned up somewhat. Missing from this sign is the original plate of advertising and its attaching parts and the rear cover and the power cord. A replacement rear cover is easy to construct and can be done on a small sheet metal finger brake (such as the local heating and cooling installer shop). The size of the front face is 20 1/2" x 9" and the size of a 1/4" glass plate to fit inside the tubing would be 16 15/16" x 5 5/16" or there abouts. Check with a sign shop that does vinyl graphics and they will explain the process to etch a glass plate.
