Antique Nepalese/Tibetan Buddhist Prayer Wheel (Mani) Buddhist Prayer Wheels (Mani) are devices for spreading spiritual blessings and well- being. This Mani is hand-made of copper and brass that has been joined together using mortise-and-tendon craftsmanship. This Mani is different than the more common hand- held prayer wheel because it was designed to sit by a shrine or altar. The prayers (mantras) are written on a cloth ball inside the Mani container, in an ancient Tibetan script. T is one small window on the Mani, which when spun, allows a different mantra to show through each time. The mantras are wound around an axle in the Mani, and spun around counter-clockwise, much like a toy 'top'. Tibetan people also carry Mani wheels around, spinning them any time that they have a hand free, even for hours, and on long pilgrimages . This authentic old Prayer Wheel is about 4-3/4" high and 2-7/8" in diameter. This Prayer Wheel came from the Estate of a Buddhist Nun whose American name was Judith Martin (see picture #9- Judith is on the left). We purchased all her items in the mid-80's directly from her Hawaiian Estate on Maui, w she had retired. We also have many original photographs from the Martin Estate Collection, of different Monasteries,
