This has to be the centerpiece of any collection of Nesbitt's items: an original lighted Nesbitt's Orange clock sign from 1970. This example is in nice condition, lights with a warm, glowing orange light, and has been running perfectly for as long as I've had it. It was made in 1970 by American Sign Industries (ASI) of Florence, Kentucky, and still has its original manufacturer's sticker on top.

When I first got it, it was completely disassembled for a thorough cleaning, and a correct new G.E. fluorescent ballast was installed, along with a new Sylvania Soft White bulb and FS-2 starter, as the old ballast had gone bad. The original Synchron clock is still running fine, and you can see the motor's manufacturing date of 2-70 (February, 1970) stamped on its side. (See photos)

It also has the original hands, even including the rare and fragile sweep-second hand with the open rectangular counterweight stamping. ASI clocks like this were often made using standard-sized, long hour and minute hands that were then hand-cut by the factory to the right length for whatever sign they were used on, and you can see that human touch in the slightly crooked way that the hands were trimmed for this clock (especially the minute hand).

The faceplate is still brightly colored and has no obvious damage. It's actually molded at a slight downward angle, maybe 10° or so, so that as you look up at the sign on the wall, it looks down at you.

The sign is 24" long, 12" high and about 5" deep, made of a stamped steel and extruded, gold-anodized aluminum frame (showing some age discoloration on the sides), vacuum-formed plastic face and a hardboard back. It has hanging eyelets on top for hanging on chains, or keyhole slots spaced about 18" apart in back for hanging on hooks. It has a Leviton pullchain canopy switch at the left end, so that you can turn the lighting off anytime, and the clock will keep running. This sign is in very good condition, works perfectly and needs nothing. Give it a good home!
