I made five pocket knives to mark the occasion of my 30th year in the Knifemakers Guild and this is one of those knives. Of the five, two were sold at the Knifemakers Guild Show that ended July 29, 2007 (today). All of the anniversary knives have bolsters made of some of the rarest and most unusual material in the world. They are made of super conductor material and it is made of Niobium/Titanium rods surrounded by a copper matrix. The material has been cut at a ten degree angle so that the rods appear on the surface as an elliptical shape. W did that material come from? I have no documentation but reliable and knowledgeable people have told me that it could only have come from one of two government projects (both discontinued), these two being the super collider in Texas or the rail gun project to shoot down satellites in space. Only a relatively small quantity of the material was ever available as scrap because it was soon discovered that a good percentage of the very high cost of producing it was reclaimable. So t is small chance that more of it will be available in the future. This incredibly high tech material is combined with the 10,000 plus year old mammoth ivory of the scales.
