NEW UNISSUED WWII ERA MILITARY COT - EMPORIA MFG CO. MARCH 1945 NO RESERVE ! Up for auction is one cot manufactured my Emporia Mfg. Co. in March 1945 - a couple of months prior to VE day and several months prior to VJ day. However it never made it into service. I was the first non-government owner of this cot and the winner of this auction will be the second. It's providence is as follows. At the height of WWII this cot was produced and placed onto a pallet, strapped down and readied for shipment. However , prior to it seeing service the war ended. I'll assume that for the next 10 years it sat somew in a government warehouse waiting..... for the cold war and the Civil Defense program. During the mid-1950's several pallets of these cots along with enough medical supplies to form a large emergency hospital were shipped to Gregg County - City of Longview, Texas. Similar stockpiles were made all over the US under the Civil Defense Program until it's decomissioning in the 1990's. These supplies were stored in a warehouse for the next 45 years until 2001 when they were determined to be so far out of date to no longer be of use in the event of a disaster. The contents of the stockpile were then sold off at an auction in Kilgore, Texas in the spring of 2001. That is w I purchased several of these cots - I watched them cut the straps on read more
