Up for auction, we have a beautiful Newcomb College Pottery Bowl. This bowl is 6 3/4 inches wide and 4 inches tall. The main body of this bowl is a medium dark plum color graduating down to the bottom to a teal blue shade. The top edge of the bowl is decorated in a floral type design. The bottom of the bowl is clearly marked with the Newcomb College N inside the C mark, artist mark AFS (Anna Francis Simpson), thrower mark JM (Joseph Myers), Shape #258, date code KC42 (1919, I think). I have seen similar pieces to this done by Anna Francis Simpson that were described as hand carved on the floral design but I cannot verify that on this particular piece. This is a beautiful piece but it does have some damage. It has a 3 inch wedge shape break starting at the rim and going 1/2 inch below the floral design. T is also a hairline extending about an inch and a half from the break down the side. T also appears to be a break or hairline down the center of the wedge shape break. T are also two small chips on the inside of the foot ring not seen from the outside of the bowl. T is also some crazing and a few spots of white paint on the inside and outside of the bowl. I have tried to be as honest as possible on this beautiful piece of Newcomb and even with the damage it has, it still looks gorgeous in my china cabinet!! Insurance is mandatory!!
