Offered here is a 0.283 gram slice of the recently classified (2013) Northwest Africa 7755 MARTIAN LHERZOLITIC SHERGOTTITE . This 0.283 gram slice was cut from the main mass with total known weight of only 30 grams . The exposed matrix reveals this rare meteorite's poikilitic texture where pyroxenes and olivines are highly equilibrated with no zonation. The meteorite shows evidence of being heavily shocked and possess varied grain sizes. There are only about 6 KNOWN LHERZOLITIC SHERGOTTITES in EXISTANCE . The other, NWA 1950, sells for thousands per gram when available. The NWA 7755 meteorite was determined to be a type of Martian terrestrial rock called a Lherzolitic Shergottite, which is a cumulate igneous rock (intrusive) and shows affinities toward the Chassignities! This meteorite has no known pairings, but the pyroxene and olivine compositions are similar to the Antarctic Lherzolitic Shergottite RBT 04262. Martian meteorites are classified as such, by their elemental and isotopic compositions that are similar to rocks and atmosphere gases analyzed by spacecraft on the planet Mars itself. The approximate dimensions of this pictured meteorite slice is 10mm x 8mm x 2mm. Martian meteorites are some of the rarest and most sought after meteorite specimens for collectors.
